In addition to 55 Distribution Centers, several other service providers belong to the global network of HAVI Logistics. The close co-operation between these specialized service providers and the distributors makes it possible to create and execute customized service packages tailored to each individual customer's needs.
HAVI Logistics’s transport fleet consists of almost 710 trucks. The company has specialized in the combined delivery of food and non-food articles - temperature controlled as well as non-temperature controlled - to its customers. HAVI Logistics has therefore developed special equipment for the own truck fleet to secure product suitable and economical transport. Variable bulkheads separate the compartments of the loading area in each truck into up to four different temperature compartments per loading unit. The appropriate temperatures are continuously displayed in the driver's cab, constantly monitored and documented by temperature recorders. Both measures secure the maintenance of the high quality of all articles during the whole transport process and result in a total flexibility combining temperature controlled and ambient goods. Different vehicles like doubles, long and short trailer trucks and transporters can be selected, as best suits the specific situation. In view of the high share of transport costs with in the supply chain, transport optimization is also a critical success factor for HAVI Logistics and thus for its customers. For this reason, modern IT tools are used to achieve ongoing route optimizations based on individual customer needs. What this means for HAVI Logistics is a maximum exploitation of truck capacity. For instance the company picks up inbound freight as back haul wherever possible on the way from the customer to the Distribution Centers to avoid empty transports and to save costs to the greatest possible extent.
Each of the 55 Distribution Centers is tailor-made and divided into three temperature zones:
ambient: + 5° C to max. + 25° C
chilled: + 1° C to max. + 3° C
frozen: - 23° C to max. - 20° C
In the storage areas of HAVI Logistics facilities, food safety is the ultimate goal. The requirements of applicable legal regulations are largely exceeded. Directly on arrival at the Distribution Center, goods are checked intensely according to the so-called QIP, “Quality Inspection Program”, which defines specific quality criteria for each product. QIP is a supplement of the extended “Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point”- concept, HACCP for short. Both concepts together - in combination with our traceability system - guarantee the highest possible food safety through quality control and respective documentation of the articles at all critical points within the supply chain from producers to customers.
HAVI Logistics can provide a trade function to relieve the customers on the purchasing side. This basically means that strategic purchasing decisions like selection of suppliers and price negotiations are managed in the responsible department of the customers while we take over the daily procurement business. Additionally, HAVI Logistics can also take over the purchasing and offers the financing of the goods. By forwarding the trade result to the customer using a specific monitoring system, called a “goods ac count”, HAVI Logistics ensures absolute transparency.
The company’s aim is to become a dedicated logistics partner who is fully integrated in the customers' business systems. In this sense - upon request - HAVI Logistics can provide and practice an open-book policy towards the customers in combination with a “cost-plus” payment agreement.
HAVI Logistics handles the import of goods from EU and non-EU countries with its own customs experts, bonded warehouses and fiscal representatives. Since HAVI Logistics export goods in about 50 different countries, it has expert knowledge of the customs and export laws of each individual country.
The customer service is responsible for the daily order management and represents a competent partner for the customers for all questions, demands and suggestions. Questions about individual order and delivery declarations as well as the claim management are dealt with in close co-operation and agreement. As “The Global Lead Logistics Provider”, HAVI Logistics feels a responsibility to secure 100 % reliable deliveries to its customers. Supply Chain quality management therefore means collecting, analyzing and monitoring all claims, regardless of who they were caused by. For the customers HAVI Logistics monitors all claims on a “single eye contact” basis.
HAVI Logistics has developed cutting edge Demand and Supply Planning concepts on a European scale. The over riding objective of these concepts is that the future demand at the point of sale drives the whole supply chain. The precise demand forecasts are made by means of mathematical statistical methods. In order to explain best the sales history at the point of sale, HAVI Logistics determines trends, seasonality and so-called “causal factors”, like for example holidays, weather or promotions. Based on their expected development (e.g. holiday starts) future sales are determined, individually per item and outlet per day (Demand Planning). Using this sales forecast, the next step is to calculate the required raw materials (Supply Planning). Taking into account the inventories and goods in transit, the required order volume per material is determined precisely until time of next delivery. All sales items to the customers are covered by the planning system. The customers benefit from an ideal goods supply as a result of the automation of the order process. Supply to the customers must be ensured at all times; an out-of-stock situation or a shortage is unacceptable.
